Hanscom Field Environmental Status and Planning Report

PROJECT TYPE: Consulting, Environmental and Traffic Analysis

DATE: 2006

LOCATION: Bedford, MA

ROLE: Transportation Planner, Traffic Engineer, Lead Writer

SUMMARY: Edited, wrote sections of the text and provided all the baseline traffic analysis for the massive Environmental Status and Planning Report for the Hanscom Field airport. As well, Grant conducted, distributed, analyzed and presented results for a survey of all the employees at Hanscom Field. He created a GIS geodatabase for all schools, hospitals, churches, and historic resources in the study area around the airport. This involved internet and phone research to find which facilities lie within the study area. Grant determined the background growth in the 4 towns surrounding Hanscom, through conversations with town officials, internet and visual surveys, and analysis of probable growth. I researched the available office space in the area by driving through the main commercial district, finding office space for lease, calling and determining how many sq ft were available, and estimating when the space could realistically be filled in. Grant then computed trip generation for all this vacant space, distributed it through the roadway network, and added it to ourexisting traffic volumes to more accurately determine what background conditions will be like in a 5 and 10 year planning horizon.
